{"id":3747,"date":"2025-02-17T09:39:44","date_gmt":"2025-02-17T15:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/study-away\/?page_id=3747"},"modified":"2026-07-09T09:00:53","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T14:00:53","slug":"short-term-mac-led-study-away-programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/study-away\/facultystaff\/short-term-mac-led-study-away-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Short-Term Mac-Led Study Away Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Short-Term Faculty and Staff-led Study Away (STiFSSA)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through work done in 2017 by a task force of faculty and staff across campus, the Short-Term Faculty and Staff-led Study Away (STiFSSA) program and recommendations were supported by the Provost at the time, and managed by the Center for Study Away. The STiFSSA program requirements and structure will apply to short-term programs running through and conclude with the 2025-26 academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Short-Term Mac-Led (STML) Study Away<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the development and approval of the <em>Imagine, Macalester<\/em>\u00a0strategic plan in 2022, the Center for Study Away and partners across campus have been working to design and implement a process that supports access to experiential learning and high-impact practices, including study away, for all students at Macalester. To develop this process, the Center for Study Away held listening sessions for campus faculty and staff in 2024-25. Based on these listening sessions, communications with EPAG, SARC, and other offices across campus, and discussions with the Provost Leadership Team, a process for Short-Term Mac-Led (STML) Study Away Programs has been established for programs starting in the 2026-27 academic year with the following goals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increase student access to high-impact practices through a diversity of embedded study away program models, without negatively impacting semester-long participation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create unique opportunities for students to participate in place-based, experiential, and intercultural learning that connects to the campus curriculum.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognize and build on the knowledge and expertise of Macalester faculty and staff as related to the priorities of the Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Design sustainable programming through collaboration between faculty and staff across campus, and deep, intentional relationships with partners locally and globally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more about the recent and current Short-Term Mac-Led Study Away programs offered on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/study-away\/short-term-study-away\/mac-led-programs\/\">CSA website.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For courses with an embedded study away component offered in the 2027-28 academic year, proposals are due by October 30, 2026. All proposals will be reviewed by the Study Away Review Committee (SARC) and the Educational Policy and Governance Committee (EPAG) in November, and decisions will be sent out by December 1, 2026.
