Who & When<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Center for Study Away does not require pre-approval for coursework as part of the application process. However, <\/span>if a student is counting on a study away course to fulfill a specific requirement, we encourage them to seek approval during the application process if at all possible. <\/span>Any courses from study away included in a major, minor, or concentration plan are approved by the Department Chair or Director of the concentration.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All students can request course approval at any time, at the discretion of the academic department or concentration.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Students seeking course or program approval are responsible for (1) meeting with the Department Chair or Director of the concentration<\/span> and (2) providing course and\/or program information (course titles, descriptions, syllabi, etc.) in a timely manner.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/b>After the Chair\/Director has reviewed course information and determined whether it may be included in a student\u2019s plan, they will:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Log into DegreeWorks (found in the Academics tab in 1600Grand).<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Find the individual student\u2019s record.<\/span>\n

    1. Click on the magnifying glass to search for a student.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Enter student name and click \u201cSearch.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. A list of students will appear at the bottom of the Find Students pop-up. Select the student seeking course approval and then click \u201cOK.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Click on the \u201cNotes\u201d tab, found near the top of the screen.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. Click on \u201cAdd Note\u201d at the left of the screen.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    6. Click in the textbook and write a detailed note specifying what course(s) have been approved. Then click the \u201cSave Note\u201d button (see below for example notes).<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    7. Upon receiving a student\u2019s final grades from study away, the Registrar will incorporate courses that have been approved into the student\u2019s major, minor, or concentration plan in DegreeWorks.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    8. Any changes or additions can be approved through the same process (i.e. if a student\u2019s coursework changes once abroad).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      • Semester at CIEE: Arts & Sciences in Tokyo meets the study abroad requirement for International Studies major.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Combinatorial Optimization taken at Budapest Semester in Mathematics program will meet Scientific Programming or Core Concepts requirement for the Mathematics (Applied Math & Statistics) major.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Indigenous Peoples in Motion<\/span> course taken at SIT Peru is approved as an Intermediate Course for Political Science major.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • China: Economic Giant at IFSA Shanghai is approved as elective at 300 or 400 level for Economics major.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Independent Study Project at SIT Chile is approved as elective for Anthropology major.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Tropical Community Ecology<\/span> at CIEE in Costa Rica is approved as upper level course for Biology major.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Earth Systems and Climate Science<\/span> at SFS Chile Patagonia is approved as elective for Geology minor.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Sexual Minorities and the Right to Healthcare<\/span> at SIT India is approved as elective for CGH concentration.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Pending approval (include course info and required next steps):<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • Research Practicum at MSID Ecuador may be approved for Biology major. Student should bring back syllabus and evidence of completed coursework for review.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Creative Production course<\/span> at AIT Arts Film and Culture in Budapest may be approved for MCS major. Student should provide course syllabus for review.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Latin American Literature at CIEE Seville may be approved for LAS Studies major. Student should bring back essays, exams, syllabus, projects, etc. for review.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
