About

The areas of Advancement—Engagement, Communications and Marketing, Development, and Advancement Information Services—are dedicated to supporting Macalester’s mission and moving it forward. We work to strengthen the Macalester experience, from maintaining clear communication campus-wide to fundraising for building projects to raising money for scholarships that ensure that deserving students can access a Mac education.

Macalester’s Advancement team affirms the college’s anti-racism statement and strives for equity and inclusion in all our work. The Advancement team stands with Macalester alumni, students, parents, faculty, and staff in taking action to dismantle anti-Blackness, racism, and white supremacy as we work towards liberation for all. We stand in strong opposition to ongoing racism and injustice in Minnesota, within the United States, and around the world. The Advancement Team recognizes that this statement in itself is not enough; we acknowledge our own need for growth; we are committed to dismantling racism and white supremacy.

Many Advancement staff members worked together to develop the division’s five Community-Centric Fundraising (CCF) principles, which were adapted from the principles of the grassroots CCF movement, a national effort to ground philanthropy in equity and social justice. We established these five principles to guide Advancement team members in all aspects of our work: navigating conversations, making decisions about transparency and communication, developing (or shifting) policies and procedures, and more.

The Advancement Equity Council (AEC) develops and leads the current and future diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts for Macalester College Advancement. The AEC reviews and advocates for critical diversity issues, coordinates diversity programs and initiatives across Advancement, advises on and manages diversity planning, and identifies and disseminates better practices. Opportunities to Connect

We strive to enhance Macalester’s present and future, but we also focus on linking the thousands who have been part of the college’s past. Just as a Macalester student’s education doesn’t end at graduation, the Mac community extends far beyond Commencement. Our network is a broad and global one, including faculty, staff, current students, families, friends, and alumni spanning 79 years. We support that network by creating opportunities to connect and stay in touch.

All of those links support the college’s foundation. Our community has shown its commitment to Macalester—in the past, today, and in the future.  We affirm that commitment.
