Congratulations to James Hartzer, Andrea Salas-de la O, Zoe Berkovitz, Amelia Gerrard, Albert Lee, Laura Berglund, Conor Broderick, Rachel Warshaw, Nana Amoah, and Sarah Chinski on your wonderful work!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We here in the English Department usually look forward to enjoying students\u2019 capstones presentations at the end of each semester. Though we were not able to celebrate their achievements in person, students found creative ways to showcase the culmination of their academic careers via Zoom presentations and poem submissions to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Words<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Please enjoy a sampling of students\u2019 work below.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James Hartzer<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> gave a presentation on his chapbook titled \u201cDesert Indiana\u201d and submitted his poem \u201c<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/the-words\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/603\/2020\/05\/James-Hartzer-Capstone-Poem-and-Authors-Note-2.pdf\">I dream of home ownership and a backyard full of wild flowers<\/a><\/em>&#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Words<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrea Salas-de la O<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> shared her poem \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/the-words\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/603\/2020\/05\/Andrea-Salas-de-La-O-Capstone-Poem-and-Authors-Note.pdf\">for those men who could\u2019ve sworn i\u2019d loved them 27 de febrero \u201820<\/a>\u201d with <em>The Words<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conor Broderick <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">submitted his poem \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/the-words\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/603\/2020\/05\/Conor-Broderick-Capstone-Poem-and-Authors-Note.pdf\">A Linear Combination of Solutions to the Schr\u00f6dinger Equation<\/a><\/strong>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rachel Warshaw<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> gave a presentation on her chapbook \u201cJunkyard God,\u201d and provided her poem \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/the-words\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/603\/2020\/05\/Rachel-Warshaw-Capstone-Poem-and-Authors-Note.pdf\">theatre of the apocalypse: the dinosaur spirit performs the epilogue<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d for the enjoyment of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Words<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019 audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nana Amoah <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gave a presentation via Zoom titled \u201cWhat is Home?: Exploring the meaning of home through art &amp; poetry,\u201d reading and breaking down the construction of various original poems.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Congratulations to all students on the successful completion of your capstones! Your marvelous work continues to make the department proud.
