The book being celebrated, Professor Penelope Geng\u2019s <i>Communal Justice in Shakespeare\u2019s England: Drama, Law, Emotion<\/i>, was published in April 2021, but the official launch was postponed until this fall, so that attendees could physically gather for the occasion.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As such, many in the audience had been eagerly anticipating the event for some time, and between the excitement of hearing about Professor Geng\u2019s important work, the joy of seeing familiar faces again, and the wonders of the ever-popular book cover cookies, their hopes were not disappointed. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/the-words\/professor-penelope-gengs-highly-anticipated-book-launch-a-success\/#\/0\">Click here to read more about the event&#8230;<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Faculty Profile: Professor Aurora Masum-Javed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zo\u00eb Roos Scheuerman &#8217;24<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Aurora Masum-Javed (she\/her) is one of the English department\u2019s new visiting faculty members this year, and she has quickly become a familiar, friendly face around the department. I had the pleasure of going, along with a friend, Maddie Wayne &#8217;24 (who, incidentally, I met in Introduction to Creative Writing with Professor Emma T\u00f6rzs). Of the event, Maddie said, &#8220;It was so exciting to be around so many people who love to read and love books. Roon (she\/her), is a Chemistry Major and English Minor from Wilmar, MN. She says that her journey as a creative writer began in her seventh grade science class, when\u2014bored of learning about photosynthesis\u2014she decided to write a poem about leaves. Roon specializes in \u201cmelodramas with comedic flairs.\u201d Her writing often explores her own culture, and she enjoys poking fun at societal norms. \u201cThe concept of death also fascinates me, and I always like to include the way people deal with loss of human life,\u201d she told us.
