Rae Charles made her professional performance and choreographic debut in 2011 as a Guest Artist & Choreographer for the Threads Dance Project. The following year, Harge was awarded a BFA in Dance with honors from the Tisch School of the Arts and was also recognized as one of the most “up and coming young choreographers” participating in the 2012 Young Choreographer’s Festival in New York City.

Charles joined Threads Dance Project as a full-time company member and Development Manager in 2014. She went on to become an educational leader as Dance Instructor and Board Member at PiM Arts High School in Eden address the systemic issues of K-12 public schooling in the U.S and went on to obtain a Master’s of Educational Leadership & Policy at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Charles is currently pursuing her Ph.d in Arts in Education at the University of Minnesota. Current research interests include: dance education, educational reform, culturally relevant pedagogy, dance pedagogy, anti-racism, equity, and social justice.
