Jack Reuler ‘75, the director of Distracted, founded the Mixed Blood Theatre Company at the age of 22 and has served as its Artistic Director since then. Mixed Blood is dedicated to the spirit of Dr. King’s dream, promoting successful pluralism using theater as a vehicle for artistry, entertainment, education, and effecting social change. Jack has received numerous awards for his work, including the Ordway’s Sally Award for Vision, the Ivey Award for Lifetime Achievement, and Macalester College’s Distinguished Citizen award. He has been named a Facing Race Ambassador by the St. Paul Foundation, and a Local Legend by the United Negro College Fund. In 2010, Theatre Communications group presented Jack with its Peter Zeisler Award, for his dedication to the freedom of expression, for exemplifying pioneering practices in theater, and for being unafraid to take risks in the advancement of the art form.
Auditioning Tips and Thoughts
Jennifer Liestman has been a theater professional for over 20 years (15 at the Guthrie), having worked at the York Theatre Company and now as the Artistic Associate/Resident Casting Director at the Guthrie. She also teaches audition master classes for the U of MN/Guthrie Actor Training program and at other universities around the country. Liestman will be visiting Fall 2018 for a lunchtime dialogue about audition do’s and don’ts. She will be leading and facilitating an open discussion about the process and preparation of auditioning.
