Green: An Elegy to Summer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Performances are on the Main Stage Theatre, Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.; Smail Gallery, Olin Rice on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m.; Mary Gwen Owen Stage, Campus Center on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 2 and 3 at 10 p.m.; Weyerhaeuser Boardroom on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.; Weyerhaeuser Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 8, 9 and 10, performances pop-up around the Macalester College campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

green: an elegy to summer<\/em> is a heart pounding production set in the drought stricken near future. Joan, a bright young girl, has created a machine that purifies water. In such a desperate time, why is she running for her life? The inhabitants of a radical off-the-grid eco-commune take her in, but how long before the dangerous corporation finds her again? green<\/em>, was adapted for Macalester students in collaboration with The Playwrights\u2019 Center\u2019s New Plays on Campus. The variation in performance locations and times aims to target a broader audience and to promote accessible theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Playwright Carson Kreitzer is a 2015 McKnight Fellow in Playwriting at the Playwrights\u2019 Center in Minneapolis, her third time receiving the honor.  She is an Artistic Associate at Park Square Theater, where her play Behind the Eye, <\/em>about surrealist muse and combat photographer Lee Miller, <\/em>was recently seen; a Core Writer and current Board Member at the Playwrights\u2019 Center; and a founding member of the Workhaus Collective.   Her play Lasso of Truth <\/em>will be seen at the Playwrights\u2019 Center in April, produced by Workhaus Collective with Walking Shadow Theatre Company. She is currently writing a new play for the Guthrie Theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director Harry Waters Jr., who created the role of \u2018Belize\u2019 in the world premiere production of Angels in America<\/em> and portrayed the character \u2018Marvin Berry\u2019 in the movie Back to the Future<\/em> (1985), has acted in and directed numerous productions around the country. Locally he has appeared at the Guthrie Theatre, Penumbra Theatre, Mixed Blood Theatre, Ten Thousand Things Theatre, Park Square, Pangea World Theatre, and Pillsbury House Theatre. At Macalester, Waters is currently teaching \u2018Theatre in the Twin Cities: Dreaming the World Forward\u2019 and \u2018Acting I. He has directed productions of Runaways, Proof, Angels in America Part I: Millennium Approaches, The Colored Museum, Tartuffe, In the Blood<\/em>, and The Cradle Will Rock<\/em>. Last February, he was fortunate to work with several young black women in mounting a highly successful presentation of for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sound designer and composer Peter Morrow moved to the Twin Cities from Dublin, Ireland, in 2012 where he worked primarily with the award winning theatre company Brokentalkers, collaborating on new innovative work. Since moving to Minnesota he has worked with many companies including New Native Theatre, Bedlam Theatre, Workhaus Collective, Stages Theatre, Swandive Theatre, Artistry and Threads Dance Company. He is thrilled to be back for green<\/em>, his second production at Macalester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
