Main Stage Theater<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guest choreographer Karla Grotting will be presenting a new work, Groove<\/em>. Grotting is a founding member and a principal dancer of Flying Foot Forum. Her choreography blends the unique styles of tap, jazz, modern and percussive dance. She has toured nationally with JAZZDANCE<\/em> by Danny Buraczeski, Keane Sense of Rhythm<\/em>, and the MN Jazz Dance Company.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty from the Macalester Theatre and Dance Department will also be presenting choreography, including Patricia Brown\u2019s The Ancient Gathering Tree, <\/em>set to music by Sowah Mensah. Jill Lile\u2019s Suite G<\/em>, is a classical ballet performed to music by Tchaikovsky. Krista Langberg\u2019s Catriona Sophia Linnea 1996 \u2013 2015<\/em>, is a trio of solos exploring ideas of translation, working with impressions from Yvonne Rainer\u2019s historic Trio A<\/em>. Wynn Fricke presents The People\u2019s Circus, <\/em>a raucous dance about our high-speed culture, set to club music by DJ Frederico Scarva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student works include Shaylene McCue\u2019s \u201918 (Antioch, Ill.) Gatherings,<\/em> performing the moment in time just before dark. Karin Davey\u2019s \u201918 (Lake Crystal, Minn.) Whispers on the Prairie<\/em>, inspired by the feelings invoked by a morning on the prairie, is both gentle and slightly menacing. Kyoko Sakai\u2019s \u201816 (Tokyo, Japan) How<\/em> It Feels to Know You<\/em>, \u2018I felt alone until I met you,\u2019<\/em> is inspired from Twinsters<\/em>. Catriona Leckie\u2019s \u201817 (Pelham, N.Y.) That which has been washed away<\/em>, plays with the ways in which we react to and are influenced by others. Colleen Cilwick\u2019s \u201817 (Ogden, Utah), Women\u2019s work<\/em> is about finding safety, healing, and solidarity through the actions of dance and labor.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
