Cheryl Moore Brinkley is a career theatre professional: actor, director, voice coach and educator, who has served as Instructor (NTT) at Macalester, teaching Acting and Voice & Speech since 2001. Her approach to teaching Acting emphasizes textual analysis, character study, and emotional truth from a variety of methods, deeply grounded in Stanislavski and the practical work of Uta Hagen, as well as her own experience as an actor. In Voice & Speech her work is strongly based upon the work of Arthur Lessac and influenced by Kristin Linklater. She has directed 4 mainstage productions and served as Voice/Speech/Dialect Coach for 11. Her performance career began in New York City and eventually brought her to Minneapolis, where she was in the 1993 acting company at the Guthrie theatre, became a core member of the St. Croix Festival Theatre, and later expanded into casting, directing, and teaching acting and spoken voice skills in the broader theatre community. She has also taught at the Guthrie, Brave new Workshop, Theatre in the Round, and directed at St. Croix Festival, Theatre Unbound, Okoboji Summer Theatre, and Lyric Arts. In 1999 she founded B. Vocal LLC, providing elocution, public speaking and presence coaching. A significant part of that work involves accent modification coaching for clients who speak English as a foreign language. Cheryl holds a BFA in Drama Speech, Acting/Directing focus, from Ithaca College and is TESOL (Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and LMRVT (Lessac-Madsen Resonant Voice) certified.
