by Dalton Greene ‘22

In last month’s inaugural edition of The Words for the 2021-2022 academic year, we introduced the English department student workers and announced that I, Dalton Greene, will be serving as the department’s first-ever Communications Liaison. Curious readers may have learned of this new development and wondered, “Hey, what’s a Communications Liaison, anyway?” And those readers are in luck, because I’m here to give the complete rundown on this new role!

As we all know, a lot of events go on in the English department, and a lot of our community members are accomplishing big things. In the past, we’ve had a few outlets—like The Words and our department social media—for sharing these things, but there was no centralized line of communication, and news sharing could get a smidge inconsistent. This was something we wanted to address this year so that nothing slipped through the cracks, and thus, the Communications Liaison position was born.

In this position, I will be managing department communications so that all the news that’s fit to share gets shared. By working closely with our stellar social media team, submitting announcements to the Mac Daily, and looping Communications and Marketing staff in on our department members’ most exciting achievements and accolades, my job is to keep everybody well-informed.

To that end, I encourage you to update me on all the cool department-related things going on! You scored a high-profile internship? Let me know! Your English class went on a little field trip? Tell me all about it! Your book just won a prestigious award? (We’re looking at you, Professor Prior!) Then by all means, get in touch with me! You can email me at [email protected] with any and all information that you think is relevant to the larger department community, and I’d be happy to liaise on the communication.
