{"id":721,"date":"2026-02-16T17:10:53","date_gmt":"2026-02-16T17:10:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/workday\/?page_id=721"},"modified":"2026-02-18T01:16:29","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T01:16:29","slug":"project-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/workday\/timeline\/project-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Project History"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2008-2021<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Macalester implemented Ellucian&#8217;s server-based ERP named Banner, a HR, Finance, and Student information management. Banner was used to support most campus operations. Additional systems were purchased and integrated, such as a recruiting and application tracking system, benefit management, multiple learning management systems, and many paper and digital forms were developed to manage Business Services like writing checks to vendors and requesting reimbursements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New cloud-based technologies became available, but could not integrate with older technology platforms like Banner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Throughout this period, Banner support professionals exited the workforce, and new technologies emerged that better met Macalester\u2019s needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2021-2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Banner announced that Macalester\u2019s Banner would be retired and replaced with their new cloud-based ERP. The effort and cost to migrate to their new system would be equivalent to implementing any new ERP.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A steering committee was formed including representatives from the Student Affairs, HR, Finance, and ITS.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The evaluation process took three years and resulted in three vendors for the final running.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ellucian\u2019s cloud-based version of Banner<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oracle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workday<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/workday\/#who\">steering committee<\/a> found effort and cost estimates all comparable, so the deciding factors were available functionality, user experience, customer experience, scalability, and alignment to Macalester\u2019s strategy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workday was the clear choice.
