MEET THE NEW FACULTY
Randy Bauer is a composer and pianist immersed in both the classical and jazz worlds, and teaches courses having to do with music theory, composition, contemporary music, jazz and improvisation.
He completed the Ph.D. at Princeton in 2005. His creative work has received several national awards and has been premiered in concert venues in the United States and internationally, from Germany, Russia, and Sweden, to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He has worked with the Brentano String Quartet, Eighth Blackbird, and the Nash Ensemble of London, as well as with many prominent jazz musicians. He designed and will teach a new course in the music department this year, Improvisation and the Creative Impulse, which will explore the intersection of the theory and practice of improvisation across multiple musical contexts.
You can find out more about Randy, (including audio clips of his music) from his web page. Better yet, consider taking him to lunch on the Serie Center.
