NEWS & UPDATES
Guidelines for May / summer Employees
Thanks to all who are part of our summer student staff.
If you have not already done so, please take a moment
to read our summer guidelines:
Summer employment runs from June 1 – August
26. If you are working full-time for the whole summer,
we expect that you will take one week off as vacation
time. This should be scheduled as soon as possible
with your supervisor so library staff can plan accordingly.
Full-time hours of work generally will be 8:00 a.m.
– 4:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 8:00
a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Friday for a total of 35.5
hours per week.
If you work a shift of at least 4 hours, you are entitled
to a 15 minute paid break without punching out. However,
you must punch out for lunch break. You can't use
the 15-minute paid break as lunch break. You may not
work more than 6 hours without punching out for at
least 30 minutes for a meal break.
The library officially opens at 10:00 a.m. Because
the library is open fewer hours during May and summer,
the building may be closed when you arrive for work.
The outer front library door will be unlocked before
all shifts begin each morning. When you arrive, please
use the doorbell or the phone in the entrance area
to alert your supervisor or another staff member.
If possible, talk with your supervisor before summer
hours begin to determine who will be available to
open the door for you.
