Leland Guyer has been a member of the Macalester faculty since 1983 and is currently Professor of Hispanic Studies. He has been an active translator of literature and intellectual history from both Spanish and Portuguese to English for more than 30 years and continues to work on his most ambitious translation project. He is also a principal editor to a Spanish-English dictionary project and writes invited book reviews, primarily on scholarly treatments of the poetry of Fernando Pessoa. He also maintains an ongoing relationship with Educational Testing Service as a Spanish Reader. Currently living near Tucson, Arizona, in their free time Leland and Ellen find the allure of summer alpine backpacking impossible to resist throughout the nearby western U.S. states. Leland is also Captain in the Civil Air Patrol in which he regularly trains in emergency services and flies aircraft in support of the U.S. Air Force. Finally, since March 2011 Leland and Ellen have learned the joyful distraction of grandparenthood.

Leland Guyer entered the Macalester Senior Faculty Employment Option (MSFEO) in
2008.
