We believe in serving the Twin Cities communities through service learning, participation in local cultural life, and internships, thereby educating our students both intellectually and civically to become the leaders of tomorrow.

WHICH SPANISH CLASS SHOULD I TAKE? No matter if you've had one year or six years of Spanish, take the placement exam to find out which Macalester class is the best fit for your skills by contacting Academic Programs at 651-696-6036. Also see our FAQ on placement. To test out of Macalester's language requirement, you must complete the SAT II with Listening and score a 620 or better.

SUMMER HOURS Summer brings an exodus of faculty and staff from regular department hours all over the academic world. We're open a few variable hours each week from June through August, so here are some guidelines in case you need info during the summer. Question about a placement exam? Contact Academic Programs: 651-696-6036. Question about or problem with registering for a class? Call the Registrar's Office: 651-696-6200. Need to contact a professor? Email is your best bet over the summer. Email addresses for all the department's faculty can be found by clicking the “FACULTY” link towards the top of this page. The department coordinator's number is 651-696-6395 and you can leave a message there with any other general questions, just don't expect a quick answer (she's gone most of the summer, too, but promises to check messages somewhere between pool parties, ice cream bars, and cool glasses of sangría).

REACHING A PROFESSORIf you need to reach a professor, go to our “Faculty” page to find out how to send an email, leave a voicemail, or catch them during office hours.
