Planning Your Visit
Spring/summer 2015 road construction alert: Travel from the airport to Macalester will be impacted by road construction. Details on the Directions page.
Campus Tours. Tours of the Macalester campus, with one of our volunteer student guides, are offered daily Monday-Friday, year round, and on Saturday mornings during the fall semester. Please call the Admissions Office for the exact times.
Class Visits. When you arrive on campus you will be able to choose from a list classes available on that day. The widest variety of classes is available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, however you are welcome to attend classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well.
You may wish to consult this class schedule to help you organize your visit to Macalester most effectively. Please be aware that only 100, 200 and 300 level courses are available to visitors and that individual courses may be unavailable on certain dates (exam days, field research trips etc.) throughout the year. Class visits should be scheduled at least one week in advance.
Interview or Group Information Session. Interviews are recommended, but not required. They are available Monday-Friday year round and on Saturdays during the fall semester. Depending on when you visit, you may interview with a staff member or one of our admissions interns. Seniors who wish to interview must do so by January 24 of their senior year.
Group Information Sessions with an admissions counselor are also a good way to learn more about the college, the admissions process and financial aid, in an informal Question and Answer session. Information sessions are provided daily Monday-Friday, and on Saturdays during the fall and in April.
Overnight Visits. Overnight visits are available during the academic year. Reservations for on-campus overnights must be made at least two weeks in advance. We cannot provide overnight accommodations during vacations or examination periods, on Saturday nights, or for more than one night. Space is limited, so please plan ahead.
Because so many high school seniors request overnight visits, Macalester is not able to host juniors overnight. We welcome juniors for daytime visits and campus tours.
Other Requests. You may want to schedule an appointment to meet with a faculty member, coach, or other member of the Macalester community while you are on campus. The Admissions Office will be glad to put you in contact with anyone on campus so that you can arrange a meeting directly.
Sampler Weekends. Macalester hosts three Samplers in the fall for high school students who want to learn more about Mac and two Samplers in April for admitted students. These programs include campus tours, class visits, and opportunities to talk with students and professors. The Spring Sampler also offers a chance to stay overnight with a Macalester student.
Group Visits. Each year, the Macalester Admissions Office accommodates a number of student group visits to campus. A typical visit features a tour led by student volunteer guides and a session on Macalester admissions and financial aid given by Macalester Admissions staff. Other activities may also be arranged on a case-by-case basis. Due to time and space constraints, the Admissions Office can only offer group visit opportunities to student visitors who are in or entering 10th through 12th grades; the Macalester partnership Opportunities Abound offers group visit opportunities for younger students in college access programs.

For All Visitors. If you are a student with a disability or traveling with a family member with a disability, please mention your needs when you call or sign up for a visit. We will be better able to make appropriate accommodations for your visit.
