Theme Housing


Location: The Veggie Co-op is located in the Macalester Stadium on Snelling Avenue.
Description: Beneath the bleachers of the Stadium lies a unique living option. All rooms have air-conditioning units, high ceilings an

d many have a half-story loft. The Veggie Co-op is a co-ed residence hall.
Resident Information: The Veggie Co-op houses 19 sophomores, juniors and seniors. If you live in the Co-Op, you will not have a meal plan.
Bathrooms: Two bathrooms, one for each sex.
Laundry Facilities: The Veggie Co-op has two laundry rooms, one in each bathroom.
Kitchen: There is a full kitchen with full-size refrigerator, sink, stove, and microwave oven.
Computer Labs/Internet Access: The nearest lab is in the library. All rooms are Ethernet accessible.
Lounges: There is a lounge located in the middle of the floor, adjacent to the kitchen.
General Room Information: The Veggie Co-op has single, double, and triple rooms all on one floor, with the double and triple rooms lofted.
Room Dimensions: Single: 10’10” x 8’ ; Double: 11’9” x 13’11” ; Triple: 13’11” x 16’
Room Furnishings: The Veggie Co-op has traditional, non-lofted furniture.

The Language Houses
Location: All 5 language houses (French House, German House, Japan House, Russian House, and Spanish House) are located on Macalester Street at the South end of campus near Olin-Rice.
Description: The language houses are living options for students enrolled in a language class and want to expand their language skills outside the classroom. Students live in the houses with 5-9 other students also interested in improving their skills in that particular language. To live in a language house you must be currently enrolled in a class pertaining to the language house in which you wish to live. You also must fill out an application explaining why you are interested in living in a particular language house.
Resident Information: The language houses house from 6 to 10 students each semester.
Bathrooms: Every house has 2 bathrooms.
Laundry Facilities: Every house has its own laundry facilities.
Kitchen: Every house has a full kitchen with a stove, an oven, full-sized refrigerator, and a sink. If you live in a language house, you will not have a meal plan.
Computer Labs/Internet Access:
Every house is Ethernet accessible. The nearest computer lab is in the library and Humanities building.
Lounges: Every house has a living room in which the residents can gather.
General Room Information: The number of bedrooms in each house varies. Some rooms are doubles, some singles depending on the number of students living in the house.

Cultural House
Location: The Cultural House is located at 37 Macalester Street.
Description: The Department of Multicultural Life provides leadership for the Cultural House. Please contact the Department at 651-696-6243 .
Computer Labs/Internet Access: The nearest computer lab is located in Dupre and Kagin Commons. All rooms in the Cultural House are Ethernet accessible.
Lounges: There is a large lounge across from the kitchen with a TV with cable.
General Room Information: The Cultural House has doubles and a few single rooms.
Room Dimensions: Single: 10’ x 14’ ; Double: 14’ x 16’6’
Room Furnishings: The Cultural House has the newer style lofted beds with a desk and dresser underneath.
