During the 2024-25 academic year, 24 Macalester departments offered 68 courses with civic engagement components taught by 45 different professors. As an institution, Macalester students completed 71,727 hours of civic engagement, including community-based learning courses, study away, internships, Athletics, and the work of our department with community partners.
During the 2024-25 academic year, 724 students were active in the Twin Cities on a weekly basis with long-time, reciprocal partner organizations. On average, 90% of students engage in these activities throughout their time at Mac. In 2024, Macalester earned All In to Vote’s “Highly Established Action Plan Seal” for our democratic engagement plan Mobilize Mac, recognized as among the best in the country for promoting civic learning, political engagement, and student voter participation. Additionally, in the 2016 and 2018 elections, the Macalester voting rate matched the high point of the overall range across all 1,100+ participating NSLVE institutions.
