FLU SHOT CLINIC

Flu shots are available for faculty and staff only on Wednesday, September 24 from 8:30 am to 11:45 am in the Weyerhaeuser Boardroom.  There is no charge if using an insurance plan.  If paying by cash or check, the cost is $30.  Please bring your insurance identification card and a photo ID with you.  Please wear loose-fitting sleeves.

Blood Drive

Give blood on Thursday, September 25 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm in the Kagin Commons, Hill Ballroom.  For appointments,  go online and list the sponsor code: 0173456 or call 1-800-Red-Cross.  Walk-ins are accepted but appointments are preferred.

Early Fall PHYSICAL activity Classes: -  to sign up ONLINE

Sign-up and registration begins September 5, 9 am, through an online process.  Classes begin the week of September 15, 2014.  Each class must have a minimum of 10 participants for the class to take place.

The 6-week series of classes have a registration fee of $20 for students and $25 for faculty and staff. If that class meets more often, the registration fee may be higher and is noted by the class description.

Belly Dance - Thursdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, September 18 - October 23, 2014
Shimmy into shape with this core-intensive, dance workout! Tone your abs, arms, glutes and legs as you learn the irresistible basic belly dance moves. Class will include a warm-up, drills, and simple combinations to music that will make you want to get up and dance! No previous dance experience or special clothing required. You can wear yoga or workout clothes, and bare feet, socks, or dance sandals/slippers. A scarf, shawl or coin skirt around your hips to accentuate the movement is optional. Everyone is welcome, regardless of fitness level, age, body type or gender.  Class meets in Studio 1.

Boot Camp - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, September 16 - October 23, 2014
A fun, high energy class with ever changing routines aimed at incorporating cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance, and core strength.  This is an advanced class that involves low impact jumping, running, and interval training.  Because this class meets twice per week, the fee is $40 for faculty/staff.

Circuit Training - Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, September 15 - October 22, 2014
Resistance training that provides a total body strength workout and elevates the heart rate.  Because this class meets twice per week, the fee is $40 for faculty and staff.

Mindfulness - Thursdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, September 18 - October 23, 2014
Come and learn how mindfulness can help us weather the storms of our lives with more calm, acceptance and compassion.  This class is open to everyone, whether you are new to mindfulness or you would like to revitalize or deepen your meditation practice. Participants will learn ways to integrate mindfulness into their daily lives, including silent and guided meditations, compassion practices, and breath awareness.  This class is for faculty and staff only.  Class meets in Leonard Center classroom (room 36).

Pilates - Tuesdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, September 16 - October 21, 2014
Strengthen and lengthen with Pilates. This mat class will help you develop abdominal strength and control, while creating a connection between your core and the rest of your body. The exercises emphasize proper breathing, precise alignment, and efficient sequencing of movement. Mats are available or feel free to bring your own.   All levels welcome.  Class meets in Studio 1.

Step Aerobics - Tuesdays, 4:35 - 5:25 pm, September 16 - October 21, 2014
Exercise along with the fun beat of music that will work your whole body and sweat you good! The exercises routine starts out with an easy-to-follow, basic choreograph. Each week new steps will be added onto the basic steps to create a combo routine.  This class involves a lot of bouncing and jumping on the step at times.  No previous experience is required. Class meets in Studio 2.

Yoga - Wednesdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, September 17 - October 22, 2014
Learn yoga basics in this beginner-friendly hatha yoga class.  Explore alignment principles of specific poses (asanas) and experience more flowing movement sequences (vinyasa).  Increase strength, flexibility, and body awareness, and leave feeling more calm and refreshed.  Mats are available or feel free to bring your own.  Class meets in Studio 1.

Liability Waiver

Summer Faculty and Staff chair massage

WHAM and Employment Services are offering a pilot project this summer, 25 minute chair massage for $30.  Appointments are available for faculty and staff by Massage Therapist, Scott Miller, in the Leonard Center Wellness Lounge.

Appointment Dates and Times:  June 10, July 8, and August 12 - every thirty minutes, with the first appointment at 11:00 am and last appointment at 1:30 pm.

Details:

  • Limited to one per faculty/staff for the summer.  No students or plus ones allowed for this pilot program.
  • This is only available through online registration with credit card payment.
  • No refunds will be offered if cancellation is made less than 10 days prior to massage date.  If cancelling massage, send refund requests by email to health@macalester.edu
