SUMMER PHYSICAL activity Classes:  Session 2 -  to sign up ONLINE

Sign-up and registration begins Monday, July 7, 9 am, through an online process.  Classes begin the week of July 14, 2014.  Each class must have a minimum of 10 participants for the class to take place.

The 6-week series of classes have a registration fee of $20 for students and $25 for faculty and staff. If that class meets more often, the registration fee may be higher and is noted by the class description.

Boot Camp - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, July 15 - August 21, 2014
A fun, high energy class with ever changing routines aimed at incorporating cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance, and core strength.  This is an advanced class that involves low impact jumping, running, and interval training.  Because this class meets twice per week, the fee is $40 for faculty/staff.

Pilates - Tuesdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, July 15 - August 19, 2014
Strengthen and lengthen with Pilates! This 45 minute mat class will help you develop abdominal strength and control, while creating a connection between your core and the rest of your body. The exercises emphasize proper breathing, precise alignment, and efficient sequencing of movement. All levels welcome.

Yoga - Wednesdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, July 16 - August 20, 2014
Learn yoga basics in this beginner-friendly hatha yoga class.  Explore alignment principles of specific poses (asanas) and experience more flowing movement sequences (vinyasa).  Increase strength, flexibility, and body awareness, and leave feeling more calm and refreshed.  Bring own mat and wear comfortable clothing.

Yoga - Mondays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, July 14 - August 18, 2014
Join a CorePower trained yoga teacher for a 50-minute power Vinyasa flow.  This invigorating class connects breath and movement through a dynamic and intelligently designed series of postures, emphasizing body awareness and mindfulness.  Set to music, this practice will leave you energized and refreshed.  Mats will be provided, but bring own if possible.  Please wear comfortable athletic wear and bring a bottle of water.

Summer Faculty and Staff chair massage

WHAM and Employment Services are offering a pilot project this summer, 25 minute chair massage for $30.  Appointments are available for faculty and staff by Massage Therapist, Scott Miller, in the Leonard Center Wellness Lounge.

Appointment Dates and Times:  June 10, July 8, and August 12 - every thirty minutes, with the first appointment at 11:00 am and last appointment at 1:30 pm.

Details:

  • Limited to one per faculty/staff for the summer.  No students or plus ones allowed for this pilot program.
  • This is only available through online registration with credit card payment.
  • No refunds will be offered if cancellation is made less than 10 days prior to massage date.  If cancelling massage, send refund requests by email to health@macalester.edu

Sign-up and registration begins Monday, March 10, 9 am, through an online process.  Classes begin the week of March 24, 2014. If you prefer to pay cash or use aux points, you may register at Health and Wellness Center. Each class must have a minimum of 10 participants for the class to take place.

The 6-week series of classes have a registration fee of $20 for students and $25 for faculty and staff. If that class meets more often, the registration fee may be higher and is noted by the class description.

Belly Dance - Thursdays, 12:05 - 12:55 pm, 3/27 - 5/1/14
Shimmy into shape with this core-intensive, dance workout! Tone your abs, arms, glutes and legs as you learn the irresistible basic belly dance moves. Class will include a warm-up, drills, and simple combinations to music that will make you want to get up and dance! No previous dance experience or special clothing required. You can wear yoga or workout clothes, and bare feet, socks, or dance sandals/slippers. A scarf, shawl or coin skirt around your hips to accentuate the movement is optional. Everyone is welcome, regardless of fitness level, age, body type or gender.
