Summer Classes

We’re excited to continue our virtual classes over the summer to keep you active and connected while fitness facilities are closed. We plan to offer more summer classes than usual and have fewer breaks without classes. Here is our schedule:

  • Summer Session 1: May 18 – June 26
  • Summer Session 2: July 6 – August 14

Registration for Session II is open as of Monday, June 22 and will close on Wednesday, July 1.  If classes do not have the mandatory minimum enrollment (10 or more people) by the registration deadline, the class may be cancelled.  You will be notified and refunded if we cancel the class.  Please note:  Refund requests are only available up to the first day of class, with no exceptions.

Spouses and domestic partners are encouraged to register and join our WHAM community in staying healthy and well during this unusual time.

All participants will need to register for an account.  1) Select your class, 2) Click on the person icon in the upper right corner, 3) Click Register, 4) Complete the registration page and click Create Account, 5) Select Continue Shopping.  If you have questions, please contact WHAM at wham@macalester.edu.

Yoga

Hatha Yoga – Mondays, 12:05 – 12:50 pm, Online with Zoom, July 6 – August 10, 2020. Cost is $25.
Learn yoga basics in this beginner-friendly hatha yoga class.  Explore alignment principles of specific poses (asanas) and experience more flowing movement sequences (vinyasa).  Increase strength, flexibility, and body awareness, and leave feeling more calm and refreshed.

Strength Training

Circuit Training – Tuesday & Thursday, 12:05 – 12:50 pm, Online with Zoom, July 7 – August 13, 2020. Cost is $40.  Resistance training that provides total body strength, endurance, core strength, and cardiovascular fitness.  Participants are able to work at their own pace and push themselves based on their goals and fitness level. This class meets twice per week for 6 weeks.  No equipment is necessary.  All workouts will be able to be completed at home.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness – Thursdays, 12:05 – 12:50 pm, Online with Zoom, July 9 to August 13. Cost is $25.           Join us in exploring how mindfulness can help us develop compassion for ourselves and others, and tolerance for difficult aspects of our life, through a variety of doable practices.   Each session offers time for mindful meditation, as well as exploring practical ways to apply mindfulness in our daily lives. Everyone is welcome, those new to, as well as those who are experienced in mindfulness.                  Instructor: Jane Rauenhorst

Cardio

Dance Cardio – Fridays, 12:05 – 12:50 pm, Online with Zoom, July 10 – August 14. Cost $25.
Improve your endurance, strength, coordination and flexibility in this fun, calorie-burning, dance workout! After a full body warm up, you’ll be led through easy-to-follow moves set to today’s hottest pop, hip-hop and dance music, as well as your favorite throwbacks! This class is great for all fitness levels and no dance experience is required. Please wear indoor sneakers or dance shoes, bring a water bottle, and get ready to sweat!                                                            Instructor: Ariel Linnerson
