The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal program that helps provide food to people with limited resources. SNAP benefits can be used at grocery stores and some other retail food outlets. Macalester students may apply for and receive SNAP benefits, subject to eligibility criteria.
Eligibility
- US Citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, Refugees, and Asylees may apply for SNAP benefits. Generally, students on an F1 visa (international students) are not eligible for SNAP benefits.
- There is an income limit for SNAP benefits. The income limit varies by household size.
- SNAP benefit recipients may not reside in a campus residence hall.
- SNAP benefit recipients must be eligible for Federal/Minnesota Work Study OR work at least 20 hours per week.
