Artist Statement: Art is a tool. It is a method of communication. Every piece can serve a purpose. Every mark can hold meaning.
Artwork Description: Cave paintings are one of our oldest methods of storytelling. They cross continents and cultures over millennia, displaying our core human desire to express ourselves. Regardless of their original intended purposes, these prehistoric paintings tell stories about the people who made them, the times in which they were living, and what was of significance to them.
This pen and ink drawing depicts a community of people composed of various identities creating, admiring, and explaining cave paintings to one another. It is meant to celebrate the storytelling threads that tie our species together and remind us of the beauty they can produce and have produced.
