Say hello to Coo!
Our mascot, named Coo, was created in 2024, as part of the sesquicentennial celebrations at Macalester College. This distinctive mascot was selected with input from Macalester alumni, students, faculty, and staff after several rounds of polling. Coo came to life at Mac Fest, October 2024.

Be sure to say hello when you see Coo!
Why a cow?
- Coo fits in well at Macalester. With our Scottish roots, strong affinity for bagpipes (we offer free lessons to students), and a Scottish shield as our logo, Coo couldn’t find a better home away from home.
- What’s more? Coo is known for their distinctive horns, which both males and females sport and can span four feet across. They have wooly orange coats, perfect for extreme weather (hello, Minnesota) and are known as even tempered animals, unless some messes with their herd, called a fold.
- Sounds like a perfect Scot.
