This year, Macalester has again been recognized as a top-producing institution for Fulbright US students. Macalester is in the company of several colleges and universities across the United States that value global connection and support members of their campus communities to pursue international opportunities.

This academic year marks the fourth consecutive year that Macalester has been recognized as a high-output school. Seven Scots were selected for the program, teaching and researching in Ireland, Spain, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico, Taiwan, and South Korea.

Fulbright Top Producer badgeEstablished in 1946, the Fulbright Program is the US government’s premier international academic exchange program. Each year, it provides opportunities for Americans and participants from 160 countries and locations to study, teach, and conduct research abroad, advancing knowledge, science, and industry through international exchange and collaboration. Fulbright alumni achieve distinction and are recognized as leaders in government, business, science, technology, research, education, and the arts.

“Being named a top producer of students for the Fulbright US Student Program has become an annual tradition at Macalester, where a commitment to internationalism is baked into our mission,” said President Suzanne Rivera. “We’re incredibly proud that our students put Mac’s values into action by seeking knowledge and building relationships across the globe. We are honored to be recognized for the work our alumni do to create a more just and peaceful world.”

Associate Dean of Academic Success Dr. Brigetta Abel supports applicants as Macalester’s Fulbright fellowship advisor. She sees this honor—and Macalester’s current Fulbright scholars—inspiring future cycles of applicants.

“It brings me hope and joy to send our engaged and curious Macalester students out into the world as Fulbright scholars and teachers,” Abel says. “Mac students embody the college’s values of internationalism and service to society, and they are thus uniquely suited to fulfill the Fulbright mission of fostering mutual understanding and building international community.”

Fulbright is a program of the U.S. Department of State, with funding provided by the U.S. Government. Participating governments and partner institutions, corporations, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support to the Program.

Fulbright alumni work to make a positive impact on their communities, sectors, and the world and have included 44 heads of state or government, 63 Nobel Laureates, 93 Pulitzer Prize winners, 83 MacArthur Fellows, and countless leaders from all sectors and industries across the United States and around the world.
