First Thursdays Humanities Career Workshop Session #1

Majors and minors in the Humanities are invited to the First Thursdays Humanities Career Workshop Series - focusing on professional & public lives after a Humanities degree. The first session is Thursday, October 3, 4:45-6:15 in the Harmon Room.

The first session is led by Professor Brian Lush, Kate Larson from Career Exploration, and Julia Carpenter ’19. The topic of this session is How to Make a Compelling Elevator Pitch. How do you articulate the value of humanities-based perspectives, and define your skills–in terms everyone from your mother to your potential employer can understand? Session includes perspectives from employers sharing practical reasons humanities majors are appealing hires.

This session will help you:

  • Articulate value of humanities-based perspectives and define your skills in accessible terms.

  • Reflect on why your experiences matter and why they are valuable.

  • Learn from alumni stories on why humanities majors make for appealing hires.

This six-session series is co-sponsored by the Departments of English, Asian Languages & Cultures, Classical Mediterranean and Middle East, History, Russian Studies, Philosophy, Religious Studies, WGSS, and Career Exploration. The sessions will include faculty from the Humanities and Career Exploration.

We hope majors and minors from the Humanities departments will participate. You can attend all of the sessions in this series or choose those of most interest to you. You do not need to register. A soup supper will be provided.
