Returnee Luncheon: Food Cultures

An important but often overlooked feature of study away, and return from study away, is food. We learn about the hostland’s food, encounter “global” and “student” foods, adjust our personal food preferences, make food-related social blunders, and get reverse food shock upon return. At the returnee lunch, I.S. professor David Moore will kick off an open discussion of how food shapes study abroad, as well as our experiences when we return.

The returnee lunch series is designed to give recent study away returnees a chance to gather with Macalester faculty and staff to reflect on and talk about issues that come up with particular salience to study away programs.
