Macalester Pipe Band Looks to Future with New Endowment

We’re thrilled to announce the establishment of an endowment for the Macalester College Pipe Band! This significant development strengthens the band’s financial foundation, joining its annual operating budget and philanthropic contributions as key revenue sources.

The endowment is specifically designed to provide sustainable and reliable support to the band’s operating budget. Each year, 5 percent of the endowment’s value will be distributed based on a formula that ensures continued support for the band’s activities while preserving the fund’s long-term value. This responsible approach guarantees that the pipe band will thrive for future generations of Macalester students and fans.

Financial resources are vital for the program’s growth and success. While dedicated community members cover their own travel costs, the endowment will help fund other essential expenses such as equipment, uniforms, program travel, and recruiting efforts. These resources enable the band to compete on a global stage, from local highland games to prestigious events like the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, showcasing the Macalester name to tens of thousands of people annually, including alumni, prospective students, and Scottish music enthusiasts.The Macalester Pipe Band currently boasts Grade 3 and Grade 5 bands, with exciting plans to expand to include Grade 2, Grade 4, and Grade 5 bands next season. This endowment is a crucial step in supporting these ambitious goals and ensuring the band’s continued excellence and visibility worldwide.
