Bagpipe and Scottish Drum Lesson Information
Lesson Information For Macalester Students and Employees
As a beginner on the bagpipe or highland drums you start your experience with 1/2 hour weekly lessons. You start on the practice chanter or drum pad. Your lesson time is arranged for a time that works for you and the instructor.
Once you get on the pipes or drums and have a few tunes memorized you would be ready to join the pipe band! At that point you would come to rehearsal at 6:30 on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings depending on the best fit.

Lesson Information for Community Members
Bagpipe and Scottish drum lessons are available to everyone! You can take individual lessons or learn with your friends. The lessons can take place at any time that is worked out with one of our instructors. Bagpipers start out on a small quiet version of the bagpipe called a practice chanter, drummers start with sticks and practice pads. The total cost of those is less than $100. Lessons fees are typically $30 for 1/2 hour lessons. They take place at Macalester College. With a little practice you then graduate to the bagpipe or drums and can begin participating in the pipe band!
