Sigma Delta Pi is the national honor society for students of Spanish literature and culture. Established in 1914 on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley, SDP sponsors chapters all over the country, from small colleges to major universities. Members rank in the upper 35% of their college class, and have maintained a 3.0 or better GPA in their coursework in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese. Macalester’s chapter, Rho Epsilon, was begun in 1986. Chapter adviser Margaret (Molly) Olsen typically inducts neophytes at a special ceremony once a year, where the honors and obligations of the society are conferred on a new group of members.
