Mann-Hill Fellowship

The Mann-Hill Fellowship for Student-Faculty Research

Winnie Mann, MD, and Carter Hill, MD, both members of the Macalester class of 1971, established the Mann-Hill Fellowship in 2020. Dr. Mann and Dr. Hill greatly benefitted from their summer research experiences in the US and Europe. They recognize that these experiences stimulated and became the cornerstones of their careers in travel medicine and international/global health. Therefore, this fellowship fund supports student-faculty collaborative research by providing stipend support of $6250 for a student doing full time research during the summer (at least 10 weeks) in an area of biomedicine, health care, public health research or practice, global health, or community health.

Any current Macalester student may apply for the Mann-Hill Fellowship to support research conducted with a faculty member at Macalester or at another institution. The fellowship will be awarded based on the strength of the application.  Students are encouraged to talk with Professor Liz Jansen about their plans to apply.

At the end of the summer, Mann-Hill Fellowship recipients will be expected to present their research at the annual summer research showcase at Macalester in the fall and to submit a one-page summary of the research project and experience by the first day of fall semester. Limited funding to support Mann-Hill Fellows’ travel to a conference to present their research is also available and must be applied for separately.
