Ilana Duby—2016 Fellow

Ilana Duby

Year: Class of 2018
Major: Political Science
Organization: Juxtaposition Arts

This summer I partnered with Juxtaposition Arts, a youth run design firm and arts education organization based in North Minneapolis. JXTA provides local youth with the tools to advance their skills in the arts while also providing them a viable employment opportunity. This summer, I took on the task of organizing the administrative side of the organization. My final project will be a fully indexed guide book to be used for orientation of new employees and a reference material that acts as the central brain for the administrative operations team. My hope is that this tool can be used by future interns like me to get oriented to JXTA efficiently such that their time can be spent most usefully. In addition, I hope that it can serve as a good foundation for JXTA as they experience a profound period of growth.

My work at JXTA has been a very positive experience that I feel has been mutually beneficial to me and my partner organization. The skills JXTA has helped me develop, such as writing a grant proposal, has been invaluable to me. I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to lend my time to such an amazing organization with the support of the fellowship. In turn, I feel that the flexibility of the fellowship allowed me to tailor my project to the needs of my partner organization. I am pleased that I will be able to leave behind resources that will hopefully be useful even after I have officially finished my project.
