Asian Studies Fall Seminar

Professor Rivi Handler-Spitz addresses:

Corrosive Pedagogy in Early Modern China

In this talk, intellectual historian and cartoonist Rivi Handler-Spitz exposes the pedagogical strategies by which the radical early modern Chinese thinker Li Zhi (1527-1602) provoked his students to doubt received dogmas, question authoritative texts and teachers, and ultimately seek answers for themselves. How relevant are these pedagogical strategies for students and teachers of the liberal arts today?
