Perspectives From the Heritage Spanish Writing Center

  • Join the Dpt. of Spanish and Portuguese and Assistant Visiting Professor Claire Lozano for her colloquium talk.

In the Heritage Spanish Writing Center, advocating for the bilingual practices of heritage speakers is met with competing expectations from pervasive monolingual ideologies. Program administrators, peer-tutors, and students are caught between embracing bilingualism on one hand, and the notion that bilingualism is a threat to academic Spanish on the other (Valdés et al., 2003). This presentation explores how tutors negotiate this space within the expectations of the program and develop a peer-tutor identity.

This event is part of the Spanish and Portuguese Colloquium Series.

Mark your calendars and enjoy the discussion!
