Out of the Ashes Film—Honoring Those Impacted by 9/11

Threads Dance Project created the dance film "Out of the Ashes" (2021) to honor those impacted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks and to remind us of what can happen if we allow differences and lack of care for one another to color our better nature.

The film won Best Music/Video Performance in the New York City Film & Television Festival 2022 and features Choreography by Threads Artistic Director - Karen Charles, Cinematography – Ryan Melling, Original Film Score - Peter Morrow, Costume Design – Angie Vo, Lighting Design – Jesse Cogswell, Scenic Design – Sean McArdle, Production Stage Management – Alexandra Whitman.

9/11 was over twenty years ago; yet the racial, social, and civil unrest in our country has persisted and grown more intense. Why can’t we retain that sense of love and care that was momentarily present immediately after the attacks on 9/11? What will it take for us to see difference but not let it ignite the baser part of our nature? The film ultimately asks if love and hope can emerge "Out of the Ashes."

This one-hour film will be screening in the Theater and Dance Mainstage Theatre (Room T121) on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. followed by a Q&A with the choreographer and light refreshments.
