Tuition Benefits

Tuition assistance provided to Macalester students by the employer of the student’s parent are referred to as tuition benefits. Tuition benefits fall into four categories, based on the institution that is providing the benefit.

• Dependent Tuition Assistance Program (DTAP): Tuition benefits provided to the dependents of Macalester employees.
• Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities Dependent Tuition Assistance program (ACTC DTAP): Tuition benefits provided to dependents of employees at ACTC schools. Participating institutions are Hamline University, University of St. Thomas, St. Catherine University, and Augsburg College. The amount of the tuition benefit varies depending on the institution where the parent is employed.
• Associated Colleges of the Midwest tuition Remission Exchange Program (ACM TRP): Tuition benefits provided to dependents of employees at participating members of the ACM.
• Tuition benefits from employers other than Macalester, ACTC, and ACM schools.

ACTC DTAP

Questions about ACTC DTAP eligibility should be directed to the institution where the student’s parent is employed (Human Resources or Financial Aid Office). The information below is provided as a summary and will be superceded by the ACTC Tuition Remission Policy.

Financial aid in addition to ACTC DTAP may be a possibility. Students must apply for financial aid to be considered. If demonstrated need for financial aid exceeds the amount of the ACTC DTAP benefit, need-based financial aid from Federal, State, and Macalester sources may be awarded in addition to the DTAP benefit. Eligibility to participate in student employment programs will be determined based on demonstrated financial need.

Eligibility for student loans may be determined by completing the FAFSA.

For a student receiving the ACTC DTAP benefit, National Merit and/or other merit-based scholarships may not exceed $1,000 per academic year.

ACTC DTAP benefits may not be used for study away programs that involve a payment to an institution other than Macalester.

ACM TREP

Other Tuition Benefits

Tuition benefits from institutions other than Macalester, ACTC, and participating ACM institutions vary widely.

Students eligible for tuition benefits from a parent’s employer may also apply for financial aid from Macalester.
