Online GIS Courses (ESRI’s Virtual Campus)

Through the ESRI higher education GIS site license includes a subscription to ESRI’s Virtual Campus courses. Macalester students, faculty and staff have FREE access to certain online courses. To learn more about the types of classes available, please click here.

Once you have decided on a course, you must create a username and password to access the course. Go to the ESRI Global Accounts webpage and click on “Create an account”.

You must also request a course access code in order to be able to access the course free of charge. Request a course access code here.

Then go to the ESRI Training and Education page, click on “My Virtual Campus Courses”, login with your username and password, and click on “Start a new course with your course access code.” This is the same page on which you can also continue with courses that you have not yet completed.

GIS Software on Macalester Campus

The GIS lab in the Geography Department is a “teaching lab” only. It is reserved only for those students enrolled in GIS courses through the Geography Department. All other students interested in using GIS on campus should use the computers in the library.

GIS is also available for Macalester faculty and staff for research and non-commercial purposes. To get the software, please contact your local AIA or the Help Desk if you do not have an AIA.

Student Licenses

Are available to full-time Macalester students upon the request of a professor he/she is working with on a project that requires GIS. Faculty, please request a student license here.
