On December 6, Macalester’s Davis United World College Scholars gathered to welcome and celebrate its newest cohort. Each of the thirty-four first-year students—representing twenty-two countries and fourteen institutions—received a crystal globe as part of the annual dinner. This year’s dinner included special guests Davis UWC Scholars Program executive director Phil Geier; Davis director of partnerships and innovation Jacob Mnookin; and Tonderai Chikuhwa ’96, UWC alumnus and chief of staff and senior policy advisor in the United Nations’ Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict. Among the ninety-nine higher education institutions partnering with the world’s largest international undergraduate scholarship program, last year only six had more Davis UWC Scholars on campus than Macalester, with a total of 110.
