Other Perks
Metro Transit bus & light rail: Go-To transit cards can be purchased at the Campus Center Information desk, and Macalester helps subsidize 50% of stored value costs for staff and faculty. Go-To cards are reusable and accepted on all regional regular route buses and trains. Cards need to be tapped to the one-touch readers located on the bus or at the train/bus station platforms in order to validate the ride.
Free campus bikes (24-hour rental): Macalester students, staff, and faculty can rent a bike (along with a helmet, lock, and bike lights) at the Library Service Desk. Free of charge!
MacShare: MacShare is a student-run food co-op where produce is sold at cost and open to all students/faculty/staff. Sign up for emails and watch for announcements in the MacDaily.
Macalester Gardens: Macalester has two community gardens, both of which can be freely harvested by any community members. Goose Garden is located behind the Sustainability Office at 1657 Lincoln Ave. Mulch Garden is located between the Spanish and German houses. More details on other local food resources.
Mac Free Swap: The Free Swap is open to all Macalester community members. Drop off items that are in good condition and that can fit on a shelf. Take items you love and use heavily to ensure the resources used to produce the item do not go to waste.
Reuse and repair: From free bike tool rental to repairing clothing, check out on-campus options for reuse and repair! Macalester also has resources to help you find/get rid of on-campus office furniture (or electronics)!
Support for student loan forgiveness: As a non-profit educational institution, Macalester qualifies as one of the employers under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. More information about assistance provided by Savi through Macalester.
