In 1887, James Wallace joined the Macalester faculty and forever changed the future of the college. Over the next 50 years as a faculty member and president, Wallace helped the college define its distinguishing values and its standards of excellence. Through the James Wallace Society, the college recognizes individuals whose gifts of future support are helping to ensure Macalester’s continued success.

Gratitude for Our Members

Members of the James Wallace Society have made a powerful statement: Macalester matters. Their planned gifts sustain the college’s ability to offer transformational experiences, support exceptional faculty, and open doors for students who will lead and learn with curiosity, compassion, and courage.

Every commitment, of all amounts, carries forward a legacy of opportunity. We are profoundly grateful for the vision and trust James Wallace Society members place in Macalester.

Today, the James Wallace Society is over 930 members strong.

  • Expands access for future students, helping them pursue an education that propels them forward
  • Advances Macalester’s mission, supporting programs that prepare students to engage thoughtfully with an increasingly complex world
  • Creates a personal legacy, connecting your values with the college’s enduring commitments
