Gifts of Tangible Personal Property

A gift of tangible personal property such as such as artwork, instruments, collectibles, or other valuable assets is a meaningful and often tax‑advantaged way to support Macalester.

What Types of Property Can I Donate

Gifts of tangible personal property can take many forms. Common examples include:

  • Artwork, antiques, or rare books
  • Collectibles or memorabilia
  • Musical instruments
  • Valuable personal items that can be used, displayed, or sold to benefit Macalester

How to Make a Gift of Tangible Goods

A gift of tangible property is often simpler than donors expect. You can:

  • Contact our team to determine whether your item can be accepted and how it may best support the college
  • Provide documentation of the item’s ownership and, when appropriate, an independent appraisal
  • Transfer the item directly to Macalester for use or sale
  • Our team will work with you each step of the way
