Welcome back to another installment of the department’s Accolades!

Jizelle Villegas presents her research paper, displayed on a large presentation screen behind her.

To start, senior Jizelle Villegas presented her research paper, “Transcending and Complicating Stereotypes in Latine Young Adult Literature: Forging New Alternatives through Glimmers,” at the Latina/o Studies Association Conference at the University of Texas in Austin. The conference hosted academics of any and all disciplines who shared their work within Latina/o studies, presented posters, and hosted many different panels and workshops.

A moss-covered skull is depicted underneath the book title, written in green cursive, and shows a miniature Samantha and Helena running up gilded steps into the skull.

Alum Susan J. Morris ’04 released a new book Wayward Souls. It is a delightfully dark sequel to the gothic supernatural mystery Strange Beasts. Wayward Souls follows Samantha Harker (daughter of Dracula’s killer) and Dr. Helena Moriarty (daughter of yes that Moriarty) as they venture to Ireland to solve a series of uncanny disappearances while slowly falling for each other.
