Welcome to the Visual Resources Library!

Mission Statement

Macalester College’s Visual Resources Library (VRL) serves, supports, and enhances the research and visual literacy scholarship of students, staff, and faculty. The VRL aims to use its resources to promote visual literacy and educational growth by helping students develop the ability to understand, appreciate, and interpret visible actions, objects, and symbols as information. These aims coincide with Macalester’s mission, which expects students “to develop the ability to seek and use knowledge and experience in contexts that challenge and inform their suppositions about the world.”
