Mission Statement
Macalester College’s Visual Resources Library (VRL) serves, supports, and enhances the research and visual literacy scholarship of students, staff, and faculty. The VRL aims to use its resources to promote visual literacy and educational growth by helping students develop the ability to understand, appreciate, and interpret visible actions, objects, and symbols as information. These aims coincide with Macalester’s mission, which expects students “to develop the ability to seek and use knowledge and experience in contexts that challenge and inform their suppositions about the world.”
Overview
The VRL holds a variety of slides for research and maintains a small library of books and videos on art and art history. The VRL also holds digital equipment for use in classes and lectures. We provide a variety of services and resources including:
