TWIN CITIES INTERNSHIPS

A big advantage to attending college in the Twin Cities is that you don’t have to limit yourself to summer internships. There are so many businesses, startups, hospitals, and government agencies found in just an 8 mile radius of campus.

Ian

Working with attorneys, paralegals, and investigators and has been a highlight for Ian in his internship at the Hennepin County Public Defender’s Office. Ian has learned a lot about specific laws, but also the general skills of networking and connecting with key stakeholders.

Aahanaa

Docsi Health is a startup health organization in Minneapolis and Aahanaa found the internship through an alumni connection. The experience has given Ashanaa a direct look into a professional setting and she appreciates the mentorship found on the job.

Braden

Fossils! Braden finds the hands-on work as a paleontology intern to be the most fulfilling part of the this internship at the Science Museum of Minnesota, just 4 miles from campus. A trip to Montana for a week-long fossil dig is just one part of the job.

Mac Seniors Looking Forward while Reflecting Back

Four years ago, Juan, Jane, Bobbie, and Ruben had plans for college, but they couldn’t fully imagine all that would come their way. Hear the highlights from their time at Macalester and begin to imagine all the opportunities you will find at Mac.

Juan is a QuestBridge Scholar, choosing Mac for the small class sizes and opportunities found in the Twin Cities. Juan’s pursuit of research in the area of neurological diseases has taken him to places across the U.S. and the world, with his next role being a post baccalaureate at Harvard University.

Jane has appreciated the opportunities that led her to a study away and research program in Madagascar, traveling there for three separate experiences. Her passion for wildlife conservation, has been broadened by the Mac community, and specifically professors, who she feels are invested in her success.

Bobbie talks about the culture at Macalester, his passion around the topic of economic international development, and becoming a Rhodes Scholar Finalist. While at Mac, he served in a variety of leadership roles, including Student Body President, and Student Liaison to the Macalester Board of Trustees.

Ruben was introduced to the power of oral history as a sophomore and joined other students to collect the oral history from trans activists across the country. Ruben studied abroad in Morocco, and sees the relationships built over this experience as a highlight of their time at Mac.
