Lela Pierce (she/her/they) teaches Sculpture I & II, Art Activation and 3D design in the Art & Art History Department at Macalester College. She is a Macalester alumna (class of 2008) graduating with a BA in Studio Art. She holds an MFA from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (class of 2022) in the Interdisciplinary Art and Social Practice area of the Art Department.

Lela is the recipient of a Jerome Emerging Artist Fellowship in visual arts 2018. She has exhibited her visual art work internationally in both India and Sweden – notably a solo show at Kalmar Konstmuseum – and locally at several Twin Cities venues throughout Minnesota. Her artistic research includes modalities of painting, performance and sculptural installation work – which has mostly been focused on investigating the politics of invasive plant species, migration and people. Her recent body of work explores the geometries of transformation relating to the corporeal body.

Lela has been named the 2023 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow in Visual Arts.
