Summer Joy Hills-Bonczyk teaches Introduction to Ceramics and Ceramics II. She graduated from Macalester College with a B.A in Studio Art and minors in Spanish and Education. She has an M.F.A. in Ceramics from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. In 2013, she received an Artist’s Travel and Study Grant from the Jerome Foundation. Summer has lived in Mendoza, Argentina where she was apprentice to ceramic artist, Vivian Magis.

Summer is also a professional yoga teacher, JourneyDance™ instructor, and founder of Project Bend, an immersive Art and Yoga summer program for teens. She has led international retreats that combine Art and Yoga for five years. In 2015 Summer delivered a TEDx talk on sacred travel that was later reviewed in Edina Magazine.

In her artistic practice, Summer is drawn to vessels, caves and expressions of containment. Her abstract ceramic sculpture has been shown at the Northern Clay Center, Howard Conn Fine Arts Center, and the Mira Gallery. Her performance art fuses sculpture with meditation-in-motion and celebrates the sensuality of material and process.
