Temporarily, as long as study away is unavailable due to the consequences of Covid, our major requirement for study away is suspended. Asian Studies, Chinese and Japanese majors should consult with department faculty regarding alternatives that will support the linguistic, cultural, experiential, and curricular objectives of the major.
Study Away is naturally a big part of the Macalester College Asian Language and Cultures experience. All students who major in either Asian Studies or Japanese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Culture are required to spend at least one semester abroad.
