Digital Screen Guidelines

Unavailable for fall 2025

Due to technical issues with the digital screens, the normal rotation of slides from campus partners will be unavailable for most of the fall semester. We will update this page once this feature is operational again. Thank you for your understanding.

Digital screens display rotating poster slides advertising campus events. They are located in the Campus Center, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, and Leonard Center. Macalester student organizations or college departments may request slides that advertise announcements, meetings, speakers, and other on-campus events.

This page will show you the correct file sizes and dimensions for each screen, how to add a slide to our digital screens, and best practices for designing and posting slides.

Who do I contact?

Please send your slides to the Communications Digital Team, [email protected]. You can also contact us if you have questions that aren’t answered on this page. We are happy to respond to emails we receive individually, though we encourage you to reach out to the provided email address.

Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center

1440 x 1080 px

Leonard Center

What are guidelines for posting digital slides?

  • LENGTH OF TIME: We can share your poster on the digital screens for up to 14 days.
  • DATE TO REQUEST SLIDE: Contact the Digital Team seven days before you would like to post a sign. This will give us time to post it and ensure as many people see your event as possible. If you contact us less than a week prior to your event, we may not be able to post the sign in time.
  • NUMBER OF SLIDES: Please submit one set of slides per event. If you feel you need more than one set of slides, reach out to [email protected] to discuss your plans in advance.

How do I create a slide for digital screens?

You can create your own slides using the following poster makers. Please save slides in .jpg format. We cannot post slides that are PDFs.

How can I make sure all members of the campus community are able to read my slide?

  • COLOR CONTRAST: Text and graphics should stand out against the slide background. AudioEye’s Color Contrast Checker can help with this.
  • FONT CHOICE: Choose Sans Serif fonts such as Arial, Helvetica, and Verdana.
  • TEXT SIZE: Larger text is best – text should be at least 30 point.
  • CONTENT: Limit text to key event information and include up to one picture/graphic. Crowded slides are difficult to read.

We may decline to post slides that do not follow these guidelines.

My poster is a PDF — how can I convert it to a JPG?

You can convert a PDF poster to a .jpg using any of the following resources.

Can somebody create a slide for me?

Email Kelsey Fox ([email protected]), graphic designer to discuss your project. Please allow up to two weeks for your request to be completed.

Can I have more information about digital screens in the Library?

For questions about Library screens, contact [email protected]. Please note that the Library prioritizes content from library building partners, events that are happening within the library, and college-wide events and initiatives.
