Ethics/Bioethics Bowl

Macalester Ethics/Bioethics Bowl team continues to be a nationally-ranked program. In April 2021, Macalester won the Bioethics Bowl National championship. In April 2022, Macalester placed fourth at the Bioethics National Championship. Currently, the team holds the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics’s Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl® National Championship. After winning quarterfinals and semifinals at the national championship, Macalester competed against the University of Chicago in finals, emerging victorious in a 2-1 decision. In Ethics Bowl, teams of 5-7 students prepare arguments and philosophical frameworks on twelve to fifteen cases centering contemporary ethical dilemmas. The squad also presents counters to opposing teams through deliberation and consensus. Each November, the Ethics Bowl team competes in a regional competition to qualify to the national championship. All majors are welcome. This year, the squad is practicing on Sunday afternoons (4:30-6:30pm) and Tuesday nights (7-9pm).
