Policy Debate

The policy debate team at Macalester competes on the National Debate Tournament (NDT) and Cross Examination Association (CEDA) circuit. Policy debate is a fast-paced and research intensive activity that debates on a year-long legal, domestic or international policy resolution. The squad competes in novice, junior varsity and varsity divisions. In the ‘21-22 school year, Macalester won the University of Kentucky’s Wildcat Junior Varsity tournament and cleared to elimination rounds of the CEDA National championship, the same national championship that Macalester won back-to-back in 1986 and 1987.

During the ‘22-23 season, policy debate team members will be debating the following resolution:

Resolved: The United States should vest legal rights and/or duties in one or more of the following: artificial intelligence, nature, nonhuman animal species.

Currently, practices are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon-1pm with additional practice intensives on the weekends.
